Sunshine and snow at Ortler

Dreamy winter outdoor days

Enjoy winter to the fullest in the Stelvio National Park

In South Tyrol in winter, there is much more to discover than just the ski slopes. While hiking, cross-country skiing, and ski touring, you'll discover idyllic landscapes and enjoy the tranquility. There's fun for the whole family with sledding, building snowmen, or having a spontaneous snowball fight in front of the hotel when it has freshly snowed. With all activities, though, there's also the anticipation of warming up afterwards in our new wellness area!

Silent Footsteps
Snowshoe Hiking

In Trafoi and the Ortler region, you also have the chance to walk silently through the snow. Whether on beautiful, groomed trails or with snowshoes through untouched deep snow – hiking in winter lets you experience nature in its quiet, unspoiled form. If you wish, you can borrow snowshoes for free at our hotel and start your snowshoe hike to the Stelvio National Park directly from the hotel.

Fun Just Like the Old Days
Tobogganing

Relive your best winter childhood memories with a thrilling toboggan ride! The nearest toboggan run is just 400 meters from Hotel Madatsch. You can borrow a toboggan for free, and off you go! While the snow sparkles in the sun, both young and old enjoy a thrilling slide down the hill.

Ascent and Descent
Ski Touring

Ski touring in Trafoi lets you experience the mountain in a way that few other winter sports can match. The strenuous ascent is rewarded with a magnificent descent, offering a view of Ortler. Ski tours in the Ortler region are especially popular with passionate and experienced ski tourers because the routes present a real challenge and provide plenty of variety. They can be done on your own or with the guidance of the experienced local alpine school guides.

The All-Round Sport
Cross-Country Skiing

Around Ortler, a single ski resort is not enough to fully enjoy the variety of winter. With skis available in so many different styles, you have the freedom to choose how you want to explore the winter world: speeding down the slopes in the Ortler ski resort, climbing the powdery slopes, or gliding on the cross-country trails in the valley. The panoramic cross-country trails in the Ortler region are perfectly groomed – both for classic and skating style. In the Sulden valley, the high-altitude trail offers a 7-kilometer training area at the foot of the Ortler massif from November to April.

A Unique Experience
Ice Climbing

For those seeking a one-of-a-kind, unforgettable experience during their winter vacation, ice climbing on Ortler is the perfect challenge. Not in the ski resort, but on frozen waterfalls, ice towers, and walls throughout the Ortler region – the experts from the alpine school will show you how to properly handle ice axes and crampons.
