Experience a Thousand Emotions in the Saddle

In the Singletrail Mecca of the Alps

One of the most beautiful places for mountain biking in the Italian Alps

Around the Hotel Madatsch, our guests will find a dense network of beautiful trails for mountain bikers and e-bikers. Road cyclists, on the other hand, will enjoy the spectacular mountain pass roads around Trafoi. From spring to autumn, you can enjoy countless hours of sunshine and pleasant temperatures.

Mountain Biking and Road Cycling at Stelvio Pass

If you prefer to ride your road bike, Hotel Madatsch is in the perfect position for the ascent to Stelvio Pass (2,760 m). From May to October, the 1,200 meters of altitude and 48 hairpin turns that separate Trafoi from the second-highest paved pass in the Alps provide a popular challenge for road cyclists. Once a year, on the so-called Stelvio Bike Day, the pass road is closed to motor vehicles from 8 AM to 4 PM – a beautiful nature and sports experience without time measurement.

At Hotel Madatsch, you can start right from the door! Hop on your mountain bike in the Stelvio National Park, where numerous marked tours on a total of 150 kilometers lead from the valley to the high mountains. Exciting trails, wide alpine meadows, and easy to challenging routes await you and your mountain bike. We are happy to provide you with information about the tours that suit you best.

And after the athletic challenge, comes the highlight of these tours: the descent back into the valley – directly to your personal wellness moment. The destination is our new wellness area, where you can relax your body and mind and end the tour in a stylish ambiance.

Our Tour Recommendations

Montoni Tour

From Prad, the route takes you via Lichtenberg to the higher-lying Pinethöfe farms (1080m), and further along a gravel road to the highest point of the tour, the "Schart" hut at 1830m. From there, the route, with the mountains of the Ortler group always in view, takes you via the Stelvio farms further to Furkelhütte at 2153m, where you may take a pleasurable break. After that, the route takes you via the valley descent back to the hotel.

Goldseetrail & Stelvio Pass – The Extraordinary Biking Adventure

Experience one of the most spectacular bike experiences in the Alps: the tour over the legendary Stelvio Pass followed by the descent on the Goldsee Trail.

Already at the Stelvio Pass, at over 2,700 meters altitude, an impressive panorama opens up with a view of the surrounding glacier world. The high alpine scenery makes the start of this tour an unforgettable experience.

The subsequent Goldsee Trail is one of the absolute highlights in the Vinschgau: a flowy, partly demanding single trail with breathtaking views of the Ortler Group. The route runs along historical paths and combines nature enjoyment with real trail fun.

The path, once created in the context of the glacier front of the First World War, is open to bikers every day until 9 am and after 4 pm.

Stelvio Pass Road - Giogo di Santa Maria

The most important achievement for many road cyclists is the road over the Stelvio Pass, which leads from South Tyrol either into the province of Sondrio in Lombardy or into Switzerland via Giogo si Santa Maria. From there, you come back through the historic town of Glorenza to Trafoi. The ascent on the South Tyrolean side overcomes around 1,900 metres in elevation gains and offers a spectacular view from the 48 hairpin bends. The highest point is at 2,757 meters.

Via Claudia Augusta

The Via Claudia Augusta was one of the most important Roman roads and led from Bavaria to the Adriatic. The South Tyrolean sections are now popular bike routes in the valley. The mostly paved and relatively flat bike paths are especially popular with families, including the section that leads through the Vinschgau. With the train and bike ticket, you can get on the train along the route at any time and continue your journey.
